FAREWELL TO TRACKLESS TROLLEYS
Saturday, February 19, 2022

UPDATE AS OF 2/18: TICKET SALES HAVE CONCLUDED FOR THIS EVENT. The trip is ON for Saturday, February 19.

Notes for trip Attendees:
Please note FACE MASKS ARE REQUIRED FOR THE DURATION OF THE TRIP on board our vehicles and in any stations or platforms. This WILL be enforced.

Attendees should arrive at North Cambridge Carhouse BEFORE 9AM on Saturday morning to check in with our volunteers.

Here is additional information on how to get to North Cambridge Yard/Carhouse:

The street address is 2375 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge MA 02140, between Shea Rd. and Cameron Ave.

On-street parking at that location will be limited. There are meters on Mass. Ave., but restricted to 2 hours maximum. Nearby side streets are posted for Residential Permit Parking only.

One option would be to park at Alewife station. From there you can walk east about 3000 feet, or 6/10 mile, along the “Linear Park” to Massachusetts Ave., then turn right on Mass. Ave for 1 block and across the street.

Or, from Alewife, take the Red Line inbound 1 stop to Davis, then walk west about 1800 feet, or 0.35 mile, along the “Community Path”. This path will take you right past the back of the carhouse, but the carhouse is fenced and there’s no access from that side. So you must walk past the carhouse, then turn left on the next street, Cameron Ave., and left again on Mass. Ave.

A third option, from Alewife, take the Red Line inbound 2 stops to Porter, then take T bus 77 [Arlington Heights] outbound 5 stops; the closest stop is at Shea Road. At Porter there’s a bus stop next to (to the left of) the subway station entrance.

Both the “Linear Park” and the “Community Path” are built above the Red Line tunnel, on former B&M RR right of way. Finding the Community Path at Davis is pretty easy; just make sure you’re going the right direction, west, from the Holland St. exit to the Red Line station (next to the Somerville Theatre). At Alewife, it can be a little tricky to find the entrance to the Linear Park, especially from the parking garage, since you must find a way to cross Alewife Brook Parkway. (There is a direct exit from to the Linear Park from the Red Line platform, but that would require paying a fare and walking from one end of the platform to the other, even if you don’t board a train.).

VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Federal and state law require that ALL passengers on board public transportation vehicles (including those on our trip), and at indoor OR outdoor bus stops, platforms, and stations, must wear face coverings that cover the nose and mouth at all times. This is a mandatory requirement and WILL be enforced throughout the trip by both our Trip Committee members and MBTA employees. By purchasing a ticket, you agree to comply with this requirement. Anyone who does not adhere to this law during our trip or disrupts it as a result are subject to removal from the trip without a refund.
