Description
By 1887, 14 of the 15 towns on Cape Cod were connected by railroads—even Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard once had lines! By 1959, however, with the advent of the automobile, year-round Cape Cod passenger service had been discontinued. Many miles of track have since been removed. This album documents the rich heritage of passenger and freight rail transportation on Cape Cod and the islands, as well as wharves at Provincetown, Hyannis, and Woods Hole.
