Description

This is the fascinating story of a rural interurban railway built in the first half of the 20th century, which operated between Springfield and Troy, Ohio. The 30 mile line quickly became a successful, privately-financed passenger, freight, and express hauler. It served as a connection for rural communities to other lines like the Dayton & Troy Electric Railway and five steam railroads. It also served as a local power source, as the AC current generated for the trolley system was also sold to customers along the line. The line shrank to a freight railroad in the 1920s, and the wires came down in 1946.
